The following was sent to Sandburg families on Wednesday, March 14, 2018:
This morning, between 500 and 600 students participated in a peaceful, respectful, and student-organized act of demonstration related to school safety. Largely communicating via social media, students invited their peers to walk out at 10 am. Student participants re-entered the building within 25 minutes and proceeded immediately to 3rd hour rooms without incident.
Those students who chose not to participate in the demonstration remained in classrooms with teachers.
As was communicated to all district families on February 26th, maintaining and managing safety was our school’s primary focus. School administration coordinated with the Orland Park Police Department to develop and implement a safety plan that insured student safety, including the restriction to our campus for approximately one hour.
Thank you and have a good day.
