An opinion page written by two students attempting to use an alternative format and humor to raise awareness about cultural differences that appeared in the November 9th edition of The Aquila student newspaper has raised concerns from some students who have brought their thoughts forward to the administration today.
I am writing to Sandburg High School families to assure you that our school is committed to providing a learning environment where all students are respected and welcomed. In our school, we promote the respectful exchange of ideas that seek to strengthen citizenship, that inform a collective understanding of our varied backgrounds and interests, and that advance our educational goals.
Please be assured that Sandburg’s administrative team will assist our Aquila advisors in every way we can to help guide our student newspaper staff toward the best possible understanding of the great responsibility and power of the press that insures responsible and balanced reporting.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school.
